Deland man arrested after beating and stabbing his grandfather, deputies said

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A 30-year-old Deland man is under arrest and charged with second-degree murder after deputies said he killed his grandfather.

On Saturday, around 6:40 p.m., Lake County deputies responded to the 44,000 block of Lake Mack Drive in Deland for reports of a stabbing.

When deputies arrived, they found 77-year-old Ronal Wells, Sr. deceased on the front porch with apparent stab wounds.

The suspect, 30-year-old Kolby Parker, initially told deputies that he and his grandfather were smoking marijuana and that Wells, Sr. attached him. Parker stated that Wells came at him with the knife, and he was able to disarm him and use the knife against him.

According to deputies, while talking to them, Parker pulled two human ears from his pants pocket, telling deputies they were his grandfathers. At this point, Parker began attacking and attempting to disarm deputies. Deputies were able to secure Parker and place him under arrest for battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting with violence.

Deputies obtained and executed a search warrant for the property, locating a “baseball bat in the corner of the porch with what appeared to be blood-like stains, as well as a large butcher knife on the kitchen table and dripped blood on the kitchen floor.”

According to deputies, Parker confessed to beating his grandfather with the bat and then stabbing him with the butcher knife multiple times. He also admitted to cutting the victim’s ears off, deputies said.

Parker is being held at the Lake County jail with no bond.
